Advanced Design Series

March 5, 2024 - March 6, 2024

$1,400.00

The Advanced Design Series follows the Introduction and Intermediate Series programs where students learn more advanced techniques such as color theory, recipe building and ultimately begin to develop their own style of floral design. This is where students become designers and ultimately gain the confidence needed to call yourself a floral designer.

This program focuses on four advanced level techniques and will teach how to differentiate, and create, different design styles including organic, classic and modern style of flowers. Each student will also be responsible for creating a concept and design, picking their own color palette for each instructional technique, and selecting their own flowers to best fit their concept.

In this series, an array of flowers and color palettes are available to students who then choose accompanying vessels and create designs accordingly. Guidance is given based on color, texture and scale appropriateness, and new designer mechanic techniques are featured.

CLASS DETAILS

Class 10: Classic Compote Design (10:30am – 12:30pm)

This class will focus on the low/lush/abundant style using the classic compote; a footed shallow vase usually used for serving fruit. Students will have the chance to use chicken wire, correctly, to hold the flowers in the compote and learn the best technique for creating an abundant centerpiece. Rather than replicating a recipe as in some classes, students will now have to develop their own palette and style based on the class lecture and materials. The instructor will coach each student to ensure that they are successful.

Class 11: Large Scale Modern Design (1:30pm – 4:00pm)

This class will focus on building a tape, wire and grid system for large-scale designs suitable for commercial contracts. This type of design is commonly made with floral foam.  This program will show the technique of replacing the foam structure for a sustainable and longer lasting installation. Instruction will focus on flower selection for maximum longevity and inspiring students to create innovative, modern designs.

Class 12: Organic Containers (10:30am – 12:30pm)

This class will focus on creating organic containers and how to design cohesive and structurally sound floral compositions. Rather than replicating a recipe as in earlier classes, students will have to develop their own palette and style based on the class lecture. The instructor will coach each student to insure that they are successful.

Class 13: Contemporary Asymmetrical Design (1:30pm – 4:00pm)

Over the last ten years a new standard of design has become prominent and celebrated throughout the floral design community, best demonstrated by designers like Ingrid Carozzi of Tin Can Studios, Sullivan Owen and Summer Robbins Flowers. With origins in Brooklyn, California and Texas, this contemporary aesthetic will feature asymmetry with an emphasis on foliage. Building upon the techniques learned in Class 10, students will create their own interpretation of an asymmetrical design that is both engaging and representative of today’s most exciting arrangements.
